Site visit to Munich

Date

In January 2018, Corinne Painter visited Munich to look at places connected with the Revolution and the Bavarian Soviet Republic. Traces of the revolution can be found all over the city, from the Munich Residenz (the former home of the local monarchic family who fled during the revolution), to the memorials to the Independent Socialist politician Kurt Eisner who was murdered in February 1919.

Corinne was very pleased to find images and documents from this period in the Archiv der Münchner Arbeiterbewegung (Archive of the Munich workers' movement) and to learn about some of the research happening in Munich now. She also developed a revolutionary walking tour of Munich, incorporating many of the key revolutionary sites and following in the footsteps of eighteen year old revolutionary, Hilde Kramer.
